Travel ban to French Polynesia and repatriation for all non-resident travelers

This measure is effective immediately until further notice.

Faced with the intensity of the health crisis we are currently experiencing, the authorities of French Polynesia have decided to suspend access to the territory for all non-residents of French Polynesia.

The repatriation of all non-resident travelers currently staying in French Polynesia will begin immediately.

All non-resident travelers are asked to take all necessary measures to organize their departure from the territory as soon as possible.

In regard to the domestic flights operated by Air Tahiti, for all non-resident travelers the following arrangements are implemented: Non-resident travelers won’t be able to travel between Tahiti and outer islands or fly between islands. Only domestic return flights to Tahiti will be allowed.

Self-isolation Health Measures in French Polynesia to prevent the spread of Coronavirus COVID-19

Applicable from Tuesday March 17th 2020 and until Tuesday March 31st 2020 inclusive, from which date the authorities will decide to possibly extend it.

All passengers arriving from an international flight must comply with the obligation of self-isolation at home or in any accommodation on the island of Tahiti for a period of 14 days, from the day of arrival at Tahiti-Faa\’a airport.

Visitors who started their stay in the islands before March 17th 2020 are able to continue with their itinerary, as planned.

The health control form given on board by the airline company on every flight to French Polynesia must be filled out by every passengers and airline crew. The completed survey must be handed, and an information leaflet will be given in return upon arrival. The place of self-isolation at home or in any accommodation on the island of Tahiti must clearly appear on the form.

Anyone who contravenes these measures will be subject to sanctions and forced quarantine under supervision will be imposed for a fortnight.

As a reminder, the Polynesian Government and the High Commission have suspended the entry of cruise ships into Polynesian waters until April 11th 2020.

French Polynesia is known for its welcome, however if you have planned a trip to our islands but have no intention of following this self-isolation measure, we strongly recommend that you reschedule your stay.

All visitors going to French Polynesia until Tuesday, March 31st, 2020 inclusive will be considered as fully aware of the associated risks as well as the health measures implemented in the destination. Consequently, all expenses related to self-isolation will be at their own expense.

This information is available and is updated accordingly to the epidemiological evolution of the virus here.

March 17th, 2020

………………………………………………………

Since March 9th, 2020, it is highly recommended that all passengers (including airline crew) traveling to/via French Polynesia present a medical certificate, or a doctor’s certificate, dated within 5 days of departure and certifying that the passenger is not presenting any clinical sign of detectable infection. This measure will be applicable until March 31st, 2020 included, from which date the government will decide to possibly extend the measure.

Health Assessment Required for Travelers arriving in French Polynesia:

  1. If the passenger has a valid medical or doctor’s certificate, he will be allowed to board. Upon arrival at Tahiti-Faa’a airport, he will have to submit a health survey previously completed on board the flight and a simple temperature control will also be carried out. If the passenger follows all these instructions, he will be authorized to leave the airport and continue his trip.

  2. If the passenger does not present any medical or doctor’s certificate, he will nevertheless be authorized to embark. Upon arrival at Tahiti-Faa’a airport, he will have to submit a health survey previously completed on board the flight and he will undergo a medical examination which might delay his exit:

    1. If his medical examination is normal, he will be authorized to leave the airport and continue his trip.

    2. If his medical examination is abnormal, he will be put on health surveillance for 14 days.
